Projects Addressing One CultureStep Priority:

ARTS & KIDS - engaging socially disadvantaged young people with the arts, making a tangible difference to the lives of some of the hardest to reach young people in Wales                           

The Riverfront Theatre & Queensberry Real Estate LLP

Queensberry Real Estate, owner of the new Friars Walk retail development, is sponsoring the Riverfront’s The Big Splash family street theatre festival in 2016.  CultureStep is extending the business’ partnership with the arts centre by funding Newport Live.  This 2 day event has been created as a result of demand from young people who wish to highlight the positive contributions they make to their city and the business’ desire to animate outdoor spaces in a creative manner.  Day 1 will consist of song writing and performance workshops at the Riverfront with a showcase of the resulting work in the outdoor spaces of Friars Walk on day 2.

Freshwest & Tesni Properties

Tesni Properties has commissioned lighting artist designer duo, Freshwest, to create a new piece of work to install in its new show home in Oswestry. CultureStep is funding the artists to deliver talks on the environmental process and materials involved with the commission to secondary school A-Level students in Flintshire and Higher Educational College Students in Wrexham. The project also involves the students visiting the show home to understand Tesni’s approach to building responsibly.

Arts Development UK & University of South Wales

University of South Wales is supporting the first year of Arts Development UK’s RawFfest, a festival planned and programmed by young people to showcase the best of youth arts. Year 1 is takes place from 18-21 August at the Riverfront in Newport and plans are in place to stage the festival in Llandudno in year 2.  CultureStep, together with funding from Maindee Unlimited, will enable up to 66 young people to attend the festival free of charge.


No Fit State Circus and Admiral Group Plc

NoFit State Circus is partnering Admiral to deliver a large-scale outdoor locally focussed summer event which will engage the community and act as a launch pad for a programme of free targeted youth circus bursaries. It will include 30 free workshops and 25 bursaries will also be provided.  Admiral staff will have the opportunity to volunteer at the event and take part in team building workshops.  CultureStep will fund personnel for the project, as well as covering the costs of 3 bursary sessions for 23 participants.


North Wales International Music Festival (NWIMF) & Cartrefi Conwy & R M Jones Joinery

Cartrefi Conwy and first time sponsor R M Jones Joinery are sponsoring NWIMF’s outreach work, delivered by Live Music Now (LMN). This will enable isolated and less able individuals across North Wales to experience high quality live music.  CultureStep will contribute to the project, enabling performances at Glan Clwyd Hospital’s Art Festival and other venues during the week, aiming to reach a total audience of over 5,000 during the tour. 


Galeri Caernarfon Cyf & Pendine Park Care Organisation (Wrexham) Ltd

Galeri’s TONIC, a series of monthly daytime concerts for older people, is returning for another year thanks to further investment from Pendine Park.  CultureStep is extending the reach of another Galeri initiative for older people.  CAIN is a dance performance group for the over 60s.  Cai Tomos, CAIN’s leader will be joined by Lucinda Jarrett to deliver an intensive weekend of workshops in September for up to 30 participants. CultureStep will fund these sessions.

Dymphna D’Arcy & Cartrefi Conwy

Cartrefi Conwy is addressing the creative needs of its older tenants through choral, dance and visual arts activity.  Dance workshops will take place before singing sessions as warm up sessions.  The tenants will also use a Cyanotope photographic printing process to create scarfs to wear at the choir performances to provide a sense of unity and identity. CultureStep is funding the Cyanotype workshops. The choir will perform at Cartrefi Conwy’s Older Persons Day at Venue Cymru on 30 September.
