A&B Cymru staged a second successful Art @ event on 7 November at Bay Studios, Swansea. It offered an exciting glimpse into how a disused factory site has been transformed into a major film studio base.
As well as having a unique behind the scenes experience at the home of the hit TV series, Da Vinci’s Demons, guests were treated to a special performance by Baglan based TAN Dance’s Troy Boyz company. The production is a lively contemporary interpretation of the ancient Greek tales from The Iliad by Homer featuring street dance, digital media and percussion.
Sponsoring the event was one of A&B Cymru’s newest members, Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay. The business also used the event to announce the four finalists of its Open Call for Welsh Cultural Commissions which invited proposals for a multi-disciplined artwork to be sighted in or on the Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay. They are Swansea artist Owen Griffiths, Morriston Orpheus Choir, artist and writer Karen Ingham along with Tidal Voices comprising Rhys Trimble and Camilla Nelson.
Speaking at the event, Tidal Lagoon’s Head of Engagement, Tessa Blazey said:
“We have been blown away by the calibre of the submissions. This is an exciting initiative that we hope will lead to Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon becoming a must visit cultural destination as well as the world’s first tidal lagoon. Engaging artists with a major infrastructure project is one of the visions we had for Swansea Bay tidal lagoon when we set out on this journey. To see us take this first step towards that reality is brilliant."
The next Art @ events will take place on 4 December back at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay and at Anna’s Welsh Zoo in Pembrokeshire in Spring 2015.View all news
