Celebrating Resilience & Creativity in Action
Arts Organisations to be recognised for their work through COVID-19
Arts & Business (A&B) Cymru has unveiled plans for a special event to be staged at the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff on the evening of Thursday 2 December 2021.
Sponsored by Wales & West Utilities, the Celebration of the Arts will shine a spotlight on the flexibility and innovation displayed by the arts sector during the pandemic. Despite the fact that no performances, exhibitions or in-person activities were allowed, many organisations quickly adapted their work in order to bring joy and inspiration to people and communities during the most difficult of times.
During the Celebration, six arts organisations will receive a £1,000 cash prize recognising their exceptional work. These have been made possible by the event’s Prize Partners – Admiral, Cardiff & Vale Health Charity, Cartrefi Conwy, Pendine Park Care Organisation, the Waterloo Foundation and University of Wales Trinity Saint David. One organisation will be awarded a top prize of £2,500, thanks to generous support from the Hodge Foundation.
The evening will also provide an opportunity to acknowledge the vital support that has come from businesses, individuals and trusts during the past 15 months. An individual from business will also be recognised as the Adviser of the Year for the crucial expertise and advice which helped to ensure their arts partner’s survival.
Speaking at the virtual launch of the Celebration on 1 July, Wales & West Utilities’ Head of Corporate Affairs, Jaime Falarczyk said “I have huge admiration for the many arts organisations that have continued to share their work during such a challenging year. We are delighted to be Principal Sponsor to help celebrate their achievements and the many ways they enrich our lives and lift our spirits.”
In addition to the organisations supporting the cash prizes, the Celebration’s Event Partners will play a crucial role in making the evening possible. They are designdough, Eversheds Sutherland, Orchard Media and Events, the Sherman Theatre and University of South Wales.
Representatives from the Celebration’s sponsors will form a judging panel in the autumn to decide on the recipients of the prizes.
Speaking at the Celebration’s Launch, A&B Cymru CEO Rachel Jones said, “Given the challenges we’ve all faced since March 2020, we feel it’s important to take the time to reflect on the incredible achievements of the arts. We want to celebrate the determination and imagination that we have seen in such abundance in the past 15 months. We hope that the event will remind us just how lucky we are in Wales to have such a vibrant arts sector – a sector which is so important to our health as a nation and which deserves the support of us all.”
